Welcome to the Louis Pohl Retrospective

December 6, 2005  -  March 4, 2006

Fissure by Louis Pohl

It is with great pride that we are able to present to the people of our island this Louis Pohl Exhibit that so splendidly fulfills the Isaacs Art Center's mission to enrich the cultural life of our community and raise funds for Hawai'i Preparatory Academy's Scholarship Fund.
Louis Pohl (1915-1999) became one of Hawai'i's most respected artists, and in 1994 was declared a "Living Treasure" by both Houses of the State Legislature. His works are valued additions to the collections of the Honolulu Academy of Arts and the State Foundation for Culture and the Arts, while gracing many public places and government offices.
Throughout his distinguished career, Pohl managed to retain his affection for the simple things of life: birds, ocean scenes, sunsets and sunrises, even the fiery displays of nature, while creating complex and vibrant images. His printing process (see the accompanying article) remains today as creative and original as it was forty years ago.
Our warmest gratitude goes to Mrs. Sandy Pohl who helped us put together this lovely exhibit which, we hope will give her late husband the recognition and admiration he so richly deserves.

Aloha,

Bernard Noguès

Director
