Darrell Hill (1941-2013) had a gift for observation and the ability to paint with both freshness and emotion. The subjects of Hill's paintings were as diverse as the Hawaiian paradise in which he lived – beaches, florals, landscapes and enchanting people – yet the "Hill touch" is unmistakable in each of his works. This quality included strong contrast, bold use of color, and light with surface texture, decidedly showcased in his landscape, Girls Day, a relaxing time at the beach.
