IN THE SHADE OF THE MILO GROVE Milo - Pacific Rosewood- originally was planted as sacred groves in the pacific. Brought in the first canoes, prized for it’s bark which is used to make cordage, it was grown as shade trees along the arid and hot coast, where it thrives. It was said that Kamehameha I’s home was surrounded by a grove of Milo. This grove can be found at Pu’ukohola Heiau at Kawaihae.
