This is truly paradise— the verdant hills of Waimea cloaked with the cooling, soothing clouds. The peaks of Hoku‘ula and distant Kohala Mountains are dappled with sun and shadow as pink-tinged clouds roll overhead. This magical scene reflects the energetic plein-air painting technique of Peter Jefferson, a “colorist with an impressionist style.” Earning a Masters in Architecture at Carnegie-Mellon University after working as an engineer, Peter added art studies to his successes and evolved as a watercolorist and oil painter. He is the head of Kohala Plein Air and a member of our HPA ‘Ohana. This picturesque landscape will serve as a continuing reminder of both the power and tranquility of our island home.
“I Love Color
Color is an integral focus in all my paintings.
The play of light in nature inspires and excites my canvases.
Waimea is such a dynamic place to paint. Shadows cast by clouds dance across the majestic hills and pu‘us of Kohala. When I paint here, I never view the same scene. I am truly blessed to live and paint here!”
