Woodley White

We have lived on the Big Island for 12 years.  Before that, we lived in Portland, Oregon for 19 years.  I opened a cabinet and furniture shop in Eugene in 1975. I became interested in building instruments in 1992.  Since that time I have built over 100 classical guitars; 150 ukuleles; 5 harp guitars; 15 acoustic steel string instruments; 3 electric guitars and three houses.  I have participated as an exhibitor and a teacher at the Guild of American Luthiers convention and at the Guitar Foundation of America and the Marylhurst Handmade Instrument Show.  I have been passionate about woodworking since I took my first shop class in junior high school.  It is the wood that inspires me and the sound of the instruments.  My son, Tristan, also an instrument builder, has recently joined me and we are now building instruments as a team.  It is really wonderful to have him in the shop with me.  We are developing our own brand of custom, hand-built instruments based on years of learning from the masters.
