HPA parents Sam and Laurie Ainslie are offering an amazing treat in their new home in Waimea: EIGHT PEOPLE ARE INVITED FOR A GOURMET DINNER DESIGNED AND PREPARED BY CHEF PETER MERRIMAN, of immense island fame.
Abutting the rain forest, the Ainslie House, located above Imiola Church, offers magnificent views of the Waimea plains. Your hosts, Sam and Laurie, will entertain you with their warm hospitality – Sam might even help you with your golf swing (he is a former golf professional) – and Laurie, as Chairman of the HPA Board of Governors, plays an important role in the future of HPA and our community.
Chef and restaurateur Peter Merriman is a culinary pioneer, a man of vision who is ever-advancing Hawai’i’s thriving culinary scene.
As executive chef of the Mauna Lani Resort’s Gallery Restaurant, Peter began to develop his vision as the pioneer of Hawai’i Regional Cuisine. He climbed coconut trees to get just the right coconuts for his spicy fish sauce. He talked a laundry truck driver into bringing him the rare but supersweet number 10 corn from the other end of the island each day. He started serving innovative dishes like Ono with Mango Sauce and Poached Opakapaka with Snow Pea Puree and Ginger Lime Sauce, always focusing on local products. His reputation flourished.
At his restaurant in Waimea, Peter deepened his relationships with local farmers and ranchers, encouraging them to try new varieties of fruits, vegetables and range-raised meats, which he, in turn, could buy to serve at the restaurant. Waimea quickly became the culinary crossroads for Hawai’i Regional Cuisine.
