Kou Pig Board

A rare 19th Century Hawaii Kou Wood Poi Board w/Repairs. Solid precious kou wood - fantastic shape and form, a poi pounding board, papa ku'i measuring 4” high, 19.5” width and 41.0” length. Made of one piece of precious kou, a wood nearly eradicated by an invasive moth during the late 1800s. An heirloom of historical importance and previously used to mash taro to make poi, a standard in the diet of the ancient Hawaiians, Features a fine patina and characteristics of much use, including several old native repairs.
