Plants that were essential to the voyager’s culture and survival were brought and cared for on the canoe. They were brought as seeds and as live plants.
Vegetative growth plants are the ones with no seeds, like banana(mai’a), taro (kalo), breadfruit(‘ulu), and yams (uhi). Hala leaves were lashed to form holders to protect the roots and provide moisture.
