Jeanne Lopes suspends time in Honokohau, recalling memories of long ago. The island is still: a woman hangs laundry, children play on the shore, and a man readies himself to throw net in the tidal inlet below. A calmness resides in the strength of the lava rock walls and the shelter the beach cottages have provided for generations. Lopes’ impressionistic style, her impasto technique that builds with thick layers of paint, is emphasized by the naturalism of the sand she adds.
Signed and dated by artist, original acrylic and mix media (sand) on canvas, gallery wrap.
