100 YEARS OF PROGRESS. A complete 1949 original print set of 10 Hawaiian scenes by the distinguished American artist Peter Hurd from the sources of the Honolulu archives, the Bishop Museum, the Library of Hawai'i, and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. These prints depict events that mark off a century of Hawaiian history before its annexation by the United States. They were commissioned by American Factors, Ltd Academy to commemorate the 100th anniversary (1849-1949) of the Islands’ development. Subjects included an early ceremonial dance, Captain Cook’s arrival, Honolulu Harbor in 1850, and the election of King Kalakaua in 1874.
