According to Madge Tennent, this gouache was a study for a “reconstruction of Queen Kamamalu, favorite wife of Liholiho, showing her hair fashioned with camellias as she wore it at the opera in London before her death [in July 1824].” The location of the final work, which was photographed for a feature on Tennent in the 'Honolulu Advertiser' (dated 13 June 1937), is unknown.
