A highly collectible, Charles Bartlett (1860-1940) woodblock print is before you this evening. Hawaiian Man in Outrigger is one of the four or five most iconic images that were left by this important artist who preserved for us scenes of “old Hawai‘i”. Here, palm trees frame the image on the sides and the outline of the clouds are visible on the horizon. The glow of the setting sun is the focal backdrop for the fisherman as he paddles his outrigger canoe. Some of you have seen his equally striking images of Duke Kahanamoku, Hawaiian Fisherman, and Surfriders. Tonight’s presentation of this c. 1920, woodblock print #67/79 on paper, carries both his signature and his artist stamp. The framed art is in very fine condition and greatly sought after from a collector’s viewpoint.
