Kathy Long, daughter of well-known artist Mary Koski, lived in Hawai'i as a child and traveled widely before settling down to study fine arts. She studied art in Scandinavia and had her debut show at the prestigious Waia Aaltonen Museum in Finland, the first of thirteen one-woman shows throughout Europe. In 1979, Long and her family moved to Texas and opened a gallery. Three years later, they moved to Hawai'i.
Known for her pastels and black and white drawings of the people and culture of Hawai'i, her work can be found in galleries statewide and in public and private collections around the world. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and has been featured on Hawai'i’s public television several times, as well as in national and international publications. The Hawai'i Visitors Bureau, Big Island chapter has commissioned her to do a series of images to promote the cultural identity of Hawai'i. She is also the official artist for Hawaiian Airlines and has done the posters for the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival for 2001 and 2002.
