Charlot painting #850. It was the third of four proposals for a mural that Charlot prepared for the Franciscans at St. Leonard's Friary in Centerville, Ohio in May and June of 1958, for their new chapel, at the time also known as the "House of Theology."
The muted colors were Charlot's response to the architect's request for "A Calvary scene to be painted in true fresco and in subdued colors with dominant browns, so as not to clash with the brilliant colors of the windows."
