Small coffee plantations still dot the landscape above the Kona Coast. The rich soil, right amount of moisture, and moderate altitude have made this area a thriving center for coffee production for many years. This 1970 view towards Miloli’i is filled with bright coloration and detail. Recent lava flows descend down from McCandless Ranch to the shore near Ho’okena, which is hidden behind the old building in the middle of the painting. Ke’ei Point is visible between the buildings. These structures might still be standing today. This painting by Lloyd Sexton showcases his mastery of coloration, detail, shadowing, and panoramic presence.
