THE MOUNTAIN OF HUALALAI. Along the slopes of Hualalai, an ancient volcano that dominates the Kona District of Hawaii, stretches a unique dry land forest. There grows the Silver Oak, with it’s bright gold flowers and silver leaves. Planted in 1905, to try and contain the decimation of the landscape by wild goats and cattle it now cloaks the area between Pu’u anahulu and the towering 12,000 foot mountain. The young dancers wear lei of the unique beautiful gold flowers.
